Off Campus Bank Accounts
Student organizations are officially recognized entities of Kenyon College. Therefore, students or non-students are not allowed to open external bank accounts/other financial accounts in the name of their organization or to conduct student organization business/activities using non-Kenyon accounts. If an organizational external bank account does exist, groups must either (a) remove the organization name from the account and shift it to an individual/personal account, thus removing the connection to the College, or (b) work with the Office of Student Engagement to transfer funds into a College fundraising account.
Student organizations sponsored by legally recognized non-profit groups (e.g., Greek Letter Organizations) are allowed to utilize funding and accounts opened and maintained by the sponsoring external organization in accordance with their rules and regulations. If there are questions regarding a student organization’s connection with a non-profit organization, please contact the director of student engagement.
In addition to an internal account used to manage funds allocated for each student organization, Kenyon can create spending/fundraising accounts that allow student organizations to collect and spend money outside the bounds of Student Council regulations. These internal accounts allow student organizations to take advantage of Kenyon’s tax exempt status, access discounts the College receives from vendors, limit student out of pocket spending for reimbursement, and protect organizational funding year to year. If any student organization is interested in creating a College account of this nature or discovering if an account of this nature already exists for their organization, please contact the Office of Student Engagement at student.engagement@kenyon.edu to schedule a time to talk.
