Residential Maintenance
This section of the Residential Life Handbook includes damage or loss to personal property, work orders and internet issues, K-Card and room key-related information, the Room Condition Report and room charge appeals.
Damage to or Loss of Personal Property
The Office of Residential Life and Kenyon College are not responsible for stolen, lost, or damaged personal property. All residents are encouraged to properly insure such items of value via homeowner’s or renter’s insurance policies.
Work Orders
To report a general facilities issue within the residential spaces, students should fill out a Maintenance Work Order using their Kenyon email.
Internet/WiFi Issues
To report an internet, WiFi or general connection issue in residential spaces, students need to contact Helpline.
K-Card Replacement
To report a lost or stolen K-Card, or to report access issues, please contact cardoffice@kenyon.edu.
Lockout Process
Students should have their K-Card and room key with them at all times. The Office of Campus Safety will conduct lockouts for residence hall buildings, houses, apartments, suites and individual rooms. The cost of a lockout is $15 for each occurrence. This charge is billed to your student account and can be paid for at the Accounting Office located in Eaton Center.
Room Key Replacement
Students who have misplaced or damaged their room key can request a replacement through Residence (click the “more” tab, select “my keys,” then select “report lost or damaged key”). The cost of a replacement key is $150 per key for a lost key. There is no charge for replacing damaged keys.
Room Charges
Residents may collectively share the financial responsibility for damages that occur in common areas. If a student(s) wants to make a claim for specific damage within a shared space, they are encouraged to share that information with the Office of Residential Life so that charges can be split accordingly.
Room Charge Appeals
Housing damage charges may be appealed, in writing, within 14 calendar days of the date the charge explanation letter was sent by the Office of Residential Life. Appeals can only be filed in instances when a formal checkout was completed. Students who completed express checkouts, did not check out or did not check out properly waive their right to appeal damage charges.
