Furniture and Decorations

Raising and Lofting Beds 

Students may choose to bunk or loft their bed. The Office of Residential Life can supply the materials to raise or lower beds to a preferred height. If a student wishes to loft their bed, they may reach out to BedLoft for assistance. Residents utilizing BedLoft are responsible for all costs associated with rentals, labor and damages. Upon move out, beds must be lowered to their original height and properly reassembled.

College Furniture

All Kenyon furniture must remain in the room in which it is originally located. The Office of Residential Life does not provide storage facilities for furniture or personal belongings. All furnishings must be returned to their original position in the room before checkout; failure to do so may result in charges for missing or damaged College property.

Decorations

No decorations may be hung from room, hallway, lounge, restroom or entryway ceilings as it can interfere with safe passage or evacuation. No decorations of any sort shall be placed in hallways, stairwells or exit routes. Any wall art or decorations that damage drywall, paint, or wall surfaces during installation or removal may result in a fee. If you participate in The Gund's Art Loan Program, please note that damage caused from installation or removal of the gallery's art may incur charges.

Exit signs, fire extinguishers, smoke detectors, fire alarm pulls, emergency lights, PED boxes, audible fire signals/strobe lights and any other life safety devices cannot be decorated, covered or obstructed in any way. 

Draperies, tapestries, other fabric textiles, posters and other flammable materials are not allowed on ceilings, covering any lights or more than approximately 50% of the walls in any room. 

Tents, tarps and canopies are prohibited. 

Using live trees or other living greenery as holiday decorations in student rooms, suites, apartments or living areas is prohibited. All decorations must be fireproof. Decorative holiday lights must be of LED specifications. Decorations or lights may not be placed on the exterior of buildings or windows, and they may not block entrances, exits, hallways, room doors, stairwells or hallways.
