Counseling Services provides compassionate care and support for students. When you contact us, we will schedule you for an initial consultation appointment, which will help determine a plan for care and follow-up appointments. Our team of licensed clinicians ;will work with you and, when appropriate, refer you to additional community counseling resources.

For urgent situations, contact 740-427-5555 for immediate assistance from a licensed counselor via TELUS Health Student Support. This service is available to students 24/7.

Scheduling an Appointment with Counseling Services

To schedule a non-urgent counseling appointment, call Health and Counseling Services at 740-427-5525 or email health@kenyon.edu.

What to expect during your appointment

During your counseling appointment, you will be treated with dignity and respect, and you will be listened to and responded to. We will help you create strategies to meet your concerns and honor you as a complete, competent and adaptable human being.

Your first visit to Counseling Services will be an initial consultation, which will help us determine what follow-up services are needed. Follow-up visits will be either concise appointments (30 minutes) or traditional appointments (45 minutes), based on the appropriate level of care needed.

You will be given intake forms to complete before your first appointment. These forms assist our counseling staff with understanding your truth, your reason for scheduling an appointment and valuable information that can help shape your treatment. At the end of your appointment, our counseling team member will discuss next steps and help you schedule a follow-up appointment, if needed.

Shared responsibility

Your personal commitment to helping yourself is crucial to an effective counseling process. Clinicians can help you only if you are willing to receive help, attend scheduled sessions, and engage new skills outside of the counseling setting.

Your clinician will make every attempt to be prompt for your appointment. However, there may be occasions when, due to an emergency, the counselor must delay or cancel your appointment. We regret the inconvenience this might cause you and, with your permission, will attempt to inform you of this change by secure message, email or telephone.

If you will be delayed in coming at your scheduled time, or if you must cancel your appointment, please notify our office  at 740-427-5525, preferably 24 hours before your appointment. Calling promptly will allow us to offer that appointment to another student. Not showing for a scheduled appointment impacts our ability and timeliness to provide you and your peers with compassionate care and support.
