Apartment and Suite Housing (ASH) is the room selection process for non-traditional residence hall spaces. ASH is a separate process that runs prior to general housing selection.

Students form groups and submit an application listing their members, group size, preferred housing type and ranked housing locations.

After applications close, the Office of Residential Life reviews all submissions and issues housing assignment offers based on a standardized point system.

Application Process

  • Form a Group

Form a group you intend to live with and collect each student’s first and last name and their student ID number.

  • Apply

One person fills out the application on behalf of the group, including a list of members and preferences for placement.

  • Outcome

After applications have been processed, your group will receive an email from Residential Life confirming if you received a housing assignment for that round.

  • Confirm

Each group member must email Residential Life to accept the placement and agree to the housing Terms and Conditions. Then you'll receive individual room assignment details.

Point System

Group point totals are based on class standing as confirmed by the Office of the Registrar (not on credits earned).

  • Rising senior: 4 point value
  • Rising junior: 3 point value
  • Rising sophomore: 2 point value

Frequently Asked Questions

Group members may not be changed after an application has been submitted and an offer has been made.

No, units are grouped and assigned based on location and occupancy.

You can find your class standing by contacting the Registrar’s Office.

If you do not receive an offer of housing through the complete ASH process, you will go through General Housing Selection.

In the event of a tie for points, groups will be selected via random number generator.

If an apartment or suite is not assigned in ASH then it will then be offered in the General Housing Selection on Residence.

Preplacement is any housing placement made prior to ASH such as SASS accommodations, Specialty Housing, Community Advisors or Substance-Free Housing.

The ASH process is still in its infancy and being adjusted every year to better serve students, as such, we do not have enough consistent data to provide relevant historical data at this time.
