On March 11, 2021, the most significant event in the art world in recent memory took place.  A work of art was sold in an online auction for $60.3 million, the third-highest auction price ever achieved for a living artist.  What made this event truly extraordinary was that the piece of art in question was an NFT. NFTs have no physical manifestation. They are simply a block of binary code living in an equally intangible coded entity known as the "blockchain." What is an NFT and what is the blockchain? And how are these ideas currently disrupting the financial world and the art world?

Robert P. Fine '71, P'09, 12 will shed light on these questions. Fine has had a 32-year career on Wall Street with firms including Goldman Sachs and JP Morgan. He currently lives with his wife close to Charleston, South Carolina, where he writes code that creates art
