What is a project?

A project is a temporary and planned endeavor with a defined start and end date that follows guidelines and creates a unique product, service or result based upon specific, agreed-upon outcomes. A project is not an ongoing operational activity but delivers something new or significantly modified.

At Kenyon, IT projects include but are not limited to:

• Software implementations, developments and significant modifications
• Hardware implementation and upgrades
• Classroom technology design and restructuring
• Network infrastructure installations and configurations
• Cloud implementation and migrations
• Data management and analysis projects
• Cybersecurity and access management implementations

Technology Intake Process (TIP)

The Technology Intake Process (TIP) will evaluate all requests for new technology solutions or significant changes to existing ones, ensuring our investments are secure, fiscally responsible, and mission-aligned.

What types of requests require TIP review? Departments should engage TIP when considering new or significantly modified technology solutions in these areas: Software and Data, Integrations, Infrastructure and Security.

Examples of requests requiring TIP review include: purchasing new software, replacing existing systems, adding integrations between platforms, or major upgrades that change functionality or cost.

Who reviews and approves a TIP request? The Technology Steering Group (TSG) reviews and approves a TIP request.
