Restoring a Community

A local internship gives a political science major an opportunity to revitalize troubled properties in the neighborhoods surrounding Kenyon.

As an intern with the Knox County Land Bank, Lucas Kreuzer ’20 worked to revitalize troubled properties in the neighborhoods surrounding Kenyon. The political science major's efforts will have lasting effects, increasing land values and attracting new investors and residents.

Kreuzer is now a graduate research assistant at Georgetown University's Walsh School of Foreign Service. His research focus is EU cohesion policy and post-industrial regions in the U.S. and Europe.

The Community Internship Program affords Kenyon students the valuable opportunity to gain meaningful work experience during the academic year, and engage in learning with the greater Knox County community. Area employers host Kenyon students for structured internships for 5-10 hours per week during the academic year, having students take on professional projects that help to develop the skills needed to be successful at Kenyon and beyond. Community partners benefit from student ideas and creativity while gaining support on key operations.
