Office of Campus Safety to Join Operations Division

In recognition of the work Campus Safety does on behalf of the entire campus community, the change in reporting structure will ensure optimal collaboration and connection with all functions of the College.

Kenyon’s Office of Campus Safety will move to the Division of Operations, effective June 1, 2026, further facilitating the seamless integration of administrative services and operational functions at the College, as overseen by Chief Operating Officer Roger Wakeman. In an effort to centralize comprehensive services and leverage efficiencies, Wakeman’s role as Kenyon’s inaugural COO has been focused on the strategic alignment and management of the College’s people, infrastructure and systems that support teaching, learning, research and the student experience.

Historically, the Office of Campus Safety has been a part of the Division of Student Affairs, but the College recognized an opportunity for realignment with the upcoming retirement of Director of Campus Safety Michael Sweazey. Sweazey’s successor will report to Wakeman, who has a significant background in managing safety and security operations in other campus settings, as well as in medical center and military environments.

While this change is in line with the centralization approach of the College, students will see no difference in the quality of support, care, protection and service from Campus Safety they have received over the years. Further, the new leader of Campus Safety will still join the leadership team meeting in Student Affairs that Vice President Celestino Limas convenes each week. The search for a new leader of Campus Safety will begin in March and be led by Wakeman.

“The College is grateful to Campus Safety for the level of commitment and care they bring to the campus each day,” Wakeman said. “I look forward to building on this history of excellent service in collaboration with the members of the team.”
