Honoring Women’s History

The Crozier Center for Women has several special events planned for March to celebrate Women’s History Month on campus.

Kenyon will mark Women’s History Month this year with a number of initiatives led by the Crozier Center for Women.

Mae Ling Gorin ’26, student co-manager of the Crozier Center with Ashley Martinez ’27, said the goal is to educate everyone on campus about women, their history, and the many challenges they still face. She hopes women will feel supported to follow their own path — not one they feel is prescribed for them.

“A lot of it is encouraging women that we’re still fighting against a heteronormative idea of what a woman should be and trying to create a new narrative about who we are and who we want to be with all of the resources that we possibly have,” Gorin said.

Now that spring break is over, programming will kick off Friday, March 20, with a screening of Greta Gerwig’s 2019 film “Little Women” at 7 p.m. in The Gund’s Community Foundation Theater.

Other events that are open to all include a partnership with AVI that will feature an afternoon of sweet treats and fun facts in Peirce Hall on Wednesday, March 25. There will be a special women’s history-themed trivia night at the Village Inn on Wednesday, March 25.

Gorin also highlighted Crozier’s weekly “Women’s Wednesday” emails that go out to the entire campus community. They spotlight a prominent woman in history each week and feature an advice column with practical tips and information.

“This is reminding, educating and encouraging people to know more about a lot of the women that we highlight,” she said. “We want to tell people that there’s more to the story than what you see.”

Another event will take place Saturday, March 28, when Sisterhood — a group dedicated to women of color — hosts its annual all-campus formal at Ganter-Price Hall to celebrate Women’s History Month and all the work its members have done this year.
