Several new or revitalized dining options on campus and in the Village of Gambier will provide additional choices starting in fall 2022.

As the fall semester gets underway, look out for the following changes in Kenyon’s culinary scene:

AVI Welcomes New Resident Director in Peirce Dining Hall

Kenyon’s dining contractor, AVI Foodsystems, is excited to introduce Ryan Summers as the new resident director at Peirce, as former resident director Bob Zoldak has moved into a new role with AVI. Summers comes to Kenyon from Ohio Wesleyan University, where he was executive chef from 2018 to 2021 and most recently the Director of Operations. He has over 20 years of experience in the foodservice industry working in hotels and country clubs and is eager to get to know the Kenyon community. Since arriving at Kenyon, Summers has been planning a new fall menu, meeting Kenyon faculty and staff, and working with the Office of Residential Life to plan student activities themed around food.

New Ownership at the Village Market

While the Village Market will continue to operate as a full-service grocery for the Village of Gambier, new owners Betsy and Nick Jones plan to expand the store’s hours and mix up the options at the deli counter in the back of the market — including fresh-made pizzas (but rest assured that the famous Market Dog remains on the menu). The Village Market aims to maintain business hours of 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Sunday, 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday and Tuesday, and 9 a.m. to midnight Wednesday through Saturday. Students interested in working at the market should stop by to fill out an application or visit the Village Market Facebook page.

Upcoming Additional AVI Food Service Location

AVI plans to open an additional food service location in the retail space that was previously occupied by Chilitos Fresh Mex on the lower level of Farr Hall in the center of Gambier. Both dine-in and takeout service will be available to Kenyon students, employees and the general public; as in Peirce Hall, the meal plan will cover food and drink for Kenyon students who display their K-Card. The space will also be available to house the Flats student bar pop-up concept announced in the spring — look for additional details later this fall. (Those who miss Chilitos and wish to support the former establishment’s owners are encouraged to visit the two Fiesta Mexicana restaurants located in Mount Vernon on West High Street and Coshocton Avenue.)
