Multidisciplinary artist Ben Gould will host a workshop on Oct. 1 from 4:10 - 5:45 p.m. at the Kokosing Nature Preserve green cemetery. A van will depart from the Kenyon College Bookstore at 4:10 p.m.

The workshop will viscerally challenge what is physically taken for granted. Through an interrogation of movement and restraint, students will engage in choreographic structures that may probe uncomfortable and atypical depths of our anatomy. Parts of the body will be bound, immobilized, tethered to weights or tethered to one another — necessitating a new language of movement that draws upon empathy, necessity and the loss of control. We will make strangers of our own bodies so that they can be met anew.

About the Artist

Ben Gould is a multidisciplinary artist based in New York whose practice is directed by changing states of health and disability, building meaning through a reckoning of an unstable body. Gould’s work is deeply informed by his “charged” experience of living with Tourette Syndrome, exploring the body's limits, resistance and loss of control — harnessing a motor for movement-based performance that result in site-specific works.
