Students, are you interested in spending your summer 2021 doing something important for the world? Do you have a great idea for a Project for Peace? Come to learn how to write an effective proposal for your project. If you intend to apply for a grant, the workshop is strongly recommended.

About Projects for Peace

Davis Projects for Peace is an initiative for students to design their own grassroots projects — anywhere in the world, including the United States or their own home country — to promote peace and address the root causes of conflict. We encourage applicants to use their creativity to design projects and employ innovative techniques for engaging project participants in ways that focus on conflict resolution, reconciliation, building understanding and breaking down barriers which cause conflict, and finding solutions for resolving conflict and maintaining peace.

Through a competition on over 90 campuses, projects will be selected for funding at $10,000 each. Kenyon will select up to two prospective proposals to be submitted in this grant competition. Recently, Kenyon students have conducted projects in Nepal, France, Palestine, Kenya and Ohio. Our students have taught women to make eco-friendly menstrual pads, taught children how to use computers, kilns, and sewing machines, trained citizens in life-saving CPR, created a system to more effectively distribute resources in a refugee camp, started a cooking cooperative to empower women refugees, promoted literacy and leadership development with vulnerable youth, and worked with immigrant youth on a mentorship and empowerment program.

The deadline or submitting your proposal for the Summer 2021 Projects for Peace program is Wednesday, Jan. 27, by 4 p.m. via email to cge@kenyon.edu. We will discuss the format of the proposal and tips for success at the workshop on Jan. 20.

Kenyon students are not permitted to use funding provided by or channeled through the College for projects to countries that are subject to the OFAC Sanctions list. Typically, students are not permitted to use funding to countries under a Department of State Travel Advisory or CDC Advisory level 3 or 4. Given the COVID-19 pandemic, applicants will need to demonstrate flexibility in how they propose to implement projects.
