Kenyon College Dance, Drama & Cinema Club (KCDC) presents a production of "The Tempest" by William Shakespeare, directed by Thomas S. Turgeon Professor of Drama and Film Jonathan Tazewell, Oct. 15-17, 2026, in the Bolton Theater. Admission is free and seating is first come, first served.
"The Tempest," William Shakespeare’s last play, kicks off the 2026-27 season. A post-colonial interpretation of the play interrogates issues of race, class and power through the story of Prospero, the usurped Duke of Milan, outcast on an island with his daughter, Miranda. The only other human inhabitant is Caliban, the son of an Algerian refugee, from whom Prospero has stolen control of the island. Prospero has enslaved Caliban and spirits of the island to do his bidding. The play begins with a storm created to bring a royal party from Naples and Milan ashore, where he manipulates them into returning his dukedom and marrying off his daughter.
