How do narratives of apocalypse affect our understanding of ontology? In this talk, Professor Stefanie Dunning from Miami University examines Octavia Butler's novel "Parable of the Sower" and the film "The Girl With All the Gifts" through a frame of human vs. plant ontology, in order to map out the abolitionist possibilities in the apocalyptic narrative.

This talk is an excerpt from Dunning's forthcoming book, "Black to Nature: Pastoral Return and African American Culture" (May 2021), a book that Sharon P. Holland hails as a "revolution in Black thought."
