The concert will take place at Ariel-Foundation Park in Mount Vernon (the rain site is Rosse Hall at Kenyon College).
The Knox County Symphony opens its 60th season on Sunday, Sept. 28, with its annual Children's Concert at 3 p.m. in Ariel-Foundation Park in Mount Vernon. The concert is free and includes special art activities for children organized by Kenyon students working as associates with The Gund.
Longtime symphony conductor, and Kenyon professor of music, Benjamin Locke will lead the orchestra in works by Haydn, Saint-Saëns and Johann Strauss Jr. The concert theme, "Art, Music, and Motion: How Sight and Sound Can Tell a Story," was inspired by a painting on display at The Gund: "Suspended in Tempo," by Naudline Pierre. Jodi Kovach, the Pamela & Christopher Hoehn-Saric Deputy Director of Curatorial Affairs and Education at The Gund, will discuss the work, after which children can create their own artwork during a performance of Saint-Saëns's "Danse Macabre."
Cider and cookies will be served after the performance.
