All alumni, parents and friends of Kenyon are invited to attend the next virtual book club. At this meeting of the book club the group will discuss "The Divorcées" by Rowan Beaird ’09.
Set in 1950s Reno, Nevada, "The Divorcées" is a compelling work of historical fiction that explores the lives of women seeking independence and new beginnings at a “divorce ranch” similar to the Golden Yarrow, where women were required to establish a six-week residency in order to file for divorce.
Kenyon alumna Rowan Beaird's first novel, "The Divorcées," was named a best book by Harper’s Bazaar, Elle, People, The Independent and the Chicago Review of Books. Her second novel, "Tenderness," will be published in July 2026. She is the recipient of the Ploughshares Emerging Writer Award, and her short fiction has been nominated for a Pushcart.
In addition to this event, you may be interested in attending A Conversation with Rowan Beaird '09, moderated by Professor Sarah Heidt '97 on Wednesday, April 29, from 7-8 p.m. ET via Zoom. This partner event is being brought to you by Kenyon Women Giving Back and the Kenyon Virtual Book Club.
