The Department of Modern Languages and Literatures welcomes director Fred Kudjo Kuwornu for a screening of his film “We Were Here: The Untold History of Black Africans in Renaissance Europe” (2024). This groundbreaking documentary sheds light on the presence and contributions of Black Africans in Renaissance Europe, challenging traditional historical narratives.

Join us for a reception in The Gund’s Fischman Lobby at 7 p.m. followed by the screening at 7:30 p.m. and a brief Q&A with director Fred Kudjo Kuwornu led by Jon Tazewell, the Thomas S. Turgeon Professor of Drama and Film.
