Filmmaker and activist Keith Beauchamp will be on campus to screen his award-winning film "Till" and to share his insights in a moderated Q&A.
"Till" will be screened at 4 p.m. on Sunday, September 17, in Oden Auditorium. Assistant Professor of American Studies and History Frankie Gourrier ’08 will moderate a discussion with Beauchamp at 7 p.m. on Monday, September 18, in Rosse Hall. A dessert reception will follow immediately in the Stroud Lobby of Storer Hall.
Keith Beauchamp studied criminal justice with the intention of becoming a civil rights attorney until an incident where he was assaulted by an undercover police officer after dancing with a white classmate changed his life and the course of his career.
In 1999, Beauchamp founded Till Freedom Come Productions, a company devoted to socially significant projects that both teach and entertain. He produced and directed the award-winning documentary, "The Untold Story of Emmett Louis Till," lobbying both the state of Mississippi and the federal government to reopen the Emmett Till murder case. In 2007, Beauchamp began his collaboration with the FBI’s Till-inspired civil rights “cold case” initiative, producing documentaries on other unsolved civil rights murders.
Beauchamp served as a screenwriter and producer of the feature film "Till," producer on BET’s "Exceptional Black Women" series, and executive producer on "The Injustice Files" series, among other projects.
