The Center for the Study of American Democracy (CSAD) welcomes Lily Geismer.

 Lily Geismer is a professor of history at Claremont McKenna College. Her research and teaching focuses on 20th century political history in the United States, especially liberalism and the Democratic Party. She is the author of "Left Behind: The Democrats' Failed Attempt to Solve Inequality" (Public Affairs, 2022), "Don't Blame Us: Suburban Liberals and the Transformation of the Democratic Party" (Princeton, 2015) and co-editor of "Shaped by the State: Toward a New Political History" of the 20th Century (University of Chicago, 2019) and "Mastery and Drift: The Rise of Professional-Class Liberals Since the 1960s" (University of Chicago, 2025). Her work has appeared in The Journal of American History, The New York Times, The Washington Post, the Nation, the New Republic, Slate, Jacobin, Dissent and on a number of podcasts. In 2018,  she was named a Andrew Carnegie Fellow by the Carnegie Corporation.
