Colleen joined the senior staff at Kenyon in 2018 to lead the Advancement Division.  In this role she steers the strategic direction of development, alumni and parent engagement and advancement services operations. She works closely with the president, fellow members of Senior Staff and the board of trustees to advance strategic priorities of the college. Garland is the staff lead working with a volunteer campaign committee for the $500 million Our Path Forward to the Bicentennial campaign — the College’s most ambitious to date. 

With more than 30 years of experience in higher education and other mission driven institutions, Garland has a track record of leading teams to new levels of excellence. She was the chief architect of Ohio Wesleyan University’s $200 million Connect Today, Create Tomorrow campaign as vice president; she led the development teams for 13 colleges and units at The Ohio State University as assistant vice president; and she cut her teeth as a major gifts officer at Denison University. Garland is a graduate of The Ohio State University with a Bachelor of Arts in organizational communications.
