Each year, many student needs are met through a variety of partnerships on campus; students reach out for assistance, and we respond as a campus community. One way that we respond is through the resources provided in The Source.

Students who meet financial need requirements can request access to The Source through Dean Hart Ruthenbeck, the Office for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, and/or the Center for Global Engagement.

Each year a number of students arrive on campus lacking some essential items, including linens, towels and pillows. Additionally, there are times throughout the year when students must relocate to a temporary location for a short period of time. The Source will have a supply of linens available for short or long-term use.

Sometimes students lack the funds to purchase toiletries, personal hygiene products, menstrual supplies, etc. A variety of such products are available so that students can select supplies that meet their needs.

Items that are stocked include soap, deodorant, shampoo and conditioner, lotion, razors, toothbrushes and toothpaste, feminine hygiene products, laundry detergent.

School supplies are also available at the start of each semester.

For many years the Center for Global Engagement (CGE) and the Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (ODEI) have worked to ensure that winter clothing is available for students who might otherwise go without. This effort now occurs in partnership with The Source. Students who qualify will have the opportunity to select from a variety of coats, hats, mittens and scarves on designated distribution dates.

The Source will ensure that students who meet financial criteria for assistance, and who are remaining on campus when Peirce Dining Hall is closed, have access to healthy grocery options. Shelf-stable items and limited fresh foods and produce will be available.

These items will be stocked in The Source, and approved students will have the opportunity to shop weekly.

The Source serves as a secure location to hold food for students who are fasting for religious purposes (such as Ramadan). In partnership with AVI, we ensure that refrigerators are stocked with options for suhoor and Iftar. Students who are fasting will be able to use their K-cards to enter the space and pick up the food to supplement what is available in the Peirce servery.
