Ransom Riggs ’01, author of Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children and its sequel, Hollow City, is completing his best-selling young-adult series with a third book, Library of Souls, set for release Sept. 22. A preview of the book can be found in the paperback edition of Hollow City, hitting shelves Feb. 24.
Book three continues to follow the adventures of Jacob and Emma — peculiar children who boast supernatural powers — on their quest to save Miss Peregrine. The excerpt offers a peek at the first 13 pages of the forthcoming novel, and a look at more of the eerie vintage photography that inspires Riggs’ work.
“I actually thought I could finish the series in the second book, but it’s like an oasis,” Riggs said in a 2014 interview with the Alumni Bulletin. “You think you’re there, and then it recedes in the distance, and it’s farther away than you thought. I probably could have made the second book a hundred pages longer and rushed it to an ending, but I wanted the story to have room to breathe and be mature and come to life.”
A film adaptation of the original Miss Peregrine book, which is being directed by Tim Burton and produced by Twentieth Century Fox, is being released March 2016.
