Professor Catherine Herrold will draw on her extensive field research in Egypt (during the Arab Spring) and Palestine to explore the democratic aspirations of civil society groups in the Middle East, focusing particularly on the differing potential to promote democracy of grassroots organizations as compared to those groups connected to international NGOs.
