In the ancient Greek comedy "Assemblywomen," male actors play female characters who disguise themselves as men to infiltrate the Athenian government and enact radical legislation in an attempt to save their city. This talk will examine the way the play uses costume to present the performance of masculinity, the impact of female empowerment on male characters, and the relationship between clothing and social redress.
