Carl Wilde Mackey is a native of the Midwest, hailing from Chicago. He earned a bachelor of science degree, with a double major in computer science and sociology, from Northeastern Illinois University (magna cum laude) and a master of science in education degree with a concentration in higher education management from the University of Pennsylvania.
Carl is an experienced residence life and student affairs professional who has served in a broad range of institutions. With a holistic approach to student engagement, he specializes in training and development, diversity/equity/inclusion issues and conflict resolution/mediation. As an undergraduate resident assistant, Carl was selected to present a "Best Practices" program with professional staff at the annual Drive-In for Diversity Conference at Texas A&M University.
Carl’s honors and achievements include SHSU Resident Assistant of the Year (1990), Texas Residence Halls Association (TRHA) Society of Distinguished Leaders (1993), NACURH Case Study Competition – Top Three Award (1993) and commencement address speaker at Northeastern Illinois University (2005).
