Direct Enrollment or Program Participation
Kenyon-Exeter Program,University of Exeter
Kenyon College. 3.0 GPA.
Year.
The Kenyon-Exeter Program provides students with the opportunity to spend a year of study and travel in England, supervised by a member of the Kenyon faculty. Developed by the English department, the program is designed to encourage students to study the literature of England at its source and is open to all majors with an interest in English literature. Students enroll as fully matriculated students at the university and take four courses: two year-long courses in the Exeter School of English, one course taught by the accompanying Kenyon faculty member who is also the resident director, and one course in an Exeter department of the student's choice. Travel to various sites in England as part of the director's course and vacation travel monies are part of the program. Students have the option of living in flats or in university halls. (See the Exeter Program fact sheet in the Office of International Education for details.)
London University and Fine Arts Program (LUFA)
IES.Spring or year.
This program allows students the option to enroll in semester or full-year programs at the following University of London colleges or fine-arts institutions: Queen Mary-Westfield College, The School of Oriental and African Studies, The Slade School of Fine Art, The Courtauld Institute of Art History, The Royal College of Music, The London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art, and City University. Semester students with a 3.2 GPA or higher who are enrolled in the humanities or international relations track of the IES London program can elect to enroll in one course and one tutorial at one of the colleges listed above. Several opportunities for full-year direct enrollment at specialized institutions also exist for students who meet special admissions requirements. See Kenyon's Office of International Education for more details.
The London Theater Program
Sarah Lawrence College and British American Drama Academy.
Fall, spring, or year.
The program, taught by a faculty that includes some of Britain's most distinguished actors and directors, is based on scene-study classes, using both classical and contemporary material. Students also take classes in dramatic criticism, history of theater, movement, stage fighting, and voice. All students take part in performances each semester. Tutorials allow students to work individually with faculty members. Drama and English credit only are available with this program. The program is highly selective and the number of students is strictly limited. Students live in apartments.
Oxford and Cambridge
It is extremely difficult for overseas students to enroll as fully integrated students at Oxford or Cambridge universities for a semester or a year. However, the Institute for Study Abroad at Butler University and the Arcadia University Center for Education Abroad have established successful links with some of the colleges at these universities whereby American students are associated with these colleges and are taught by Oxford and Cambridge professors in the tutorial system. More information on these two programs is available in the Office of International Education.
