The Kenyon Review Student Associates Program

Each year, The Kenyon Review selects ten Kenyon students to become adjunct members of the magazine's staff. Student Associates receive hands-on experience in literary editing, publishing and marketing. Participants work directly with The Kenyon Review's professional staff and benefit from special literary, cultural, and professional opportunities. In addition, Student Associates contribute directly to the enrichment of the academic, cultural, and artistic life of the college. Upon successful completion of the program, each Student Associate receives a certificate of participation.

Kenyon Review staff conduct a series of formal seminars for the Student Associates covering such subjects as editorial philosophy, acquisitions, processing, copy editing, production, marketing, fulfillment, and funding. Student Associates work closely with the staff throughout the year, gaining hands-on experience in a number of editing and publishing areas, including manuscript processing, publication operations, advertising sales, web site development, grants administration, and publicity. In addition, Student Associates enjoy special contact with visiting writers and other speakers, access to the Review's library of literary journals, access to collections of books for review, free copies of The Kenyon Review, end-of-term receptions with faculty and staff, and an impressive resumé entry and employment references for future careers in publishing.

All Kenyon students are invited to apply. Applicants submit a brief letter, stating why they wish to be part of the program, as well as letters of recommendation from Kenyon faculty or other appropriate persons. Selection criteria include dependability, initiative, responsibility, and workplace skills. Preference is given to creative writing students and those considering careers in journalism or publishing. The Kenyon Review encourages diversity of thought and background in program participants.
