Returning Students

Academic scholarships are only awarded to incoming first-year students. Awards for returning students are automatically renewed provided the student meets the criteria for renewing merit-based financial aid.

All students must reapply for need-based financial aid each year. Returning students must submit the FAFSA or renewal FAFSA (Kenyon code 003065) as well as the PROFILE (Kenyon code 1370) by April 1 of each year. If selected for a process termed verification by the federal government, the Kenyon College Financial Aid Verification Statement(s) along with official IRS tax transcripts for both the student and parent(s) (given the IRS Data Retrieval Process through the FAFSA was not utilized) will be required to award need-based financial aid. Financial aid awards are always contingent upon funding levels established by the College and the need levels demonstrated each year on the financial aid applications.

Kenyon College students are eligible to receive need-based financial aid for eight semesters of full-time attendance. To renew need-based financial aid from one year to the next, a student must maintain satisfactory academic standing (2.0 cumulative GPA), earn sufficient units of academic credit to be making normal progress toward graduation (4 units per year), submit a PROFILE and FAFSA showing continuing need, and present a record of conduct deserving of continuing support. Should a student fail to meet any of these requirements, the need-based financial aid may be reduced or rescinded.

Because need-based financial aid is evaluated each year and because college costs rise each year, the total amount of aid a student receives may vary from year to year. As family circumstances change, so may a student's need. Fluctuation in need may result in larger or smaller aid packages being awarded from year to year.
