Costs and Payments
A non-refundable $1,000 deposit is due approximately 2 weeks after acceptance by Kenyon into the program. The $1,000 should be submitted to the Center for Global Engagement in the form of a check made payable to Kenyon College and marked Exeter Program deposit. In the event that a program participant decides before the end of the academic year preceding the program that s/he does not wish to participate, the $1000 may be transferred from the program to Kenyon College as the advance registration fee. Thereafter, or if the student withdraws from the program and from Kenyon, the $1,000 will not be refunded. Students who are accepted in the program do not pay Kenyon's advance registration deposit for the year they will be at Exeter.
The program fee is the same as the Kenyon College on-campus tuition fee for the current academic year, and is paid in two installments, due August 15 and December 15. After the program has begun, the program fee is not refundable, except in the case of incapacitating illness. The $1,000 program deposit is credited as part of the program fee. Exeter Program students do not pay the Off-Campus Studies fee. Kenyon College pays Exeter tuition and guild fees out of the program fee.
Kenyon offers a meal stipend to each participant. In 2010-2011 this stipend was $2,215 for each semester ($4,430 total per student).
Room and board fees in an Exeter residence hall, or a University-owned flat are paid directly to the University after arrival. You have three weeks after arrival in which to pay for your housing, which gives you time to open a bank account and have money transferred to that account from home. Online payments can be made by credit card at www.epay.ex.ac.uk. These fees may be paid one term at a time (there are three ten-week terms). During 2010-11 an enhanced self-catering room for 40 weeks was £3,536* (pounds). The cost will undoubtedly increase by 5-10% for 2011-12. If a student chooses to live in an off campus apartment, s/he must make the necessary arrangements and assume full responsibility for carrying out any agreement made.
Other expenses for which the individual is responsible are: Trans-Atlantic transportation, transportation from London to Exeter and back, books, personal living expenses (e.g., laundry, food, mailing costs, etc.), and travel expenses beyond the money refunded by Kenyon. It is possible that particularly exotic travel plans could exceed this allotment!
The tuition for the Kenyon-Exeter Program covers the group excursions, course-related travel and theater tickets.
Listed below are fixed and estimated costs for 2010-11. This should provide a reasonable basis on which to calculate expenses for 2011-12. All costs will probably increase. More precise information will be available in late spring of 2011 from Exeter University itself.
