Chatham Baroque to perform at Kenyon College

GAMBIER, Ohio (September 11, 2003) The Taylor Concert Series at Kenyon College will present Chatham Baroque, an acclaimed ensemble specializing in the performance of seventeenth- and eighteenth-century music on period instruments. The group will offer a program called "Españoleta: Baroque Instrumental Music from Spain and Latin America" at 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 25, in Rosse Hall Auditorium.

There is a sizeable repertoire of secular music in Spain during the seventeenth century that was written for solo instruments, but there is virtually no surviving ensemble music. The musicians of Chatham Baroque have adapted a variety of Spanish dances for ensemble performance demonstrating how music might have been performed using instruments that were available at the time.

Based in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Chatham Baroque features Julie Andrijeski on baroque violin, Emily Davidson on baroque violin, Patricia Halverson on viola da gamba, and Scott Pauley on theorbo and baroque guitar.

The ensemble was named "Best New Classical Artist of 1999" by National Public Radio and in that same year received the "Early Music Brings History Alive Award" from Early Music America and the Logan Award from Penn State Erie in recognition of its innovative educational programming.

The public is invited to attend this concert at no charge.
