Cincinnati artist Thom Shaw works primarily in large woodcuts, often exploring-as in his series The Malcolm X Paradox-themes related to the inner city and minority youth. His exhibit, "Inner Sanctums/Urban Sanctities," is in the Olin Gallery through September 27.

A prolific scholar and award-winning teacher, Bartsch is the editor of Classical Philology and the author of Actors in the Audience: Theatricality and Doublespeak from Nero to Hadrian; Decoding the Ancient Novel: The Reader and the Role of Description in Heliodorus and Achilles Tatius; and Ideology in Cold Blood: A Reading of Lucan's Civil War.
