Development of master plan continues with public gatherings
The development of Kenyon's new master plan continues this fall when Graham Gund '63 of Graham Gund Architects comes to campus September 15-17. Gund, who has been commissioned to prepare the plan, will meet with groups of students, faculty members, and others to discuss ideas, concepts, and needs related to the planning principles guiding the project.
He will also meet with members of the Gambier Village Council and the Planning and Zoning Commission, as well as with village merchants and representatives of the College Township Fire Department. In addition, Gund will appear at two public gatherings during his visit: a Common Hour discussion on Tuesday, September 16, at 11:10 a.m. in Storer Hall's Brandi Recital Hall and a slide lecture on his architectural work that evening at 7:30 p.m. in Higley Auditorium.
President S. Georgia Nugent announced the master-plan project last spring. The proposal was approved by the College's Board of Trustees at their meeting in April.
The master-plan principles include promoting a walking campus, preserving green space, keeping the center of the village a vital component of College life, and sustaining and strengthening the integrity of the Gambier community. The plan will also strive to place all academic facilities in the academic core of the campus, south of Wiggin Street.
Nugent has appointed Provost Gregory Spaid, Vice President for Development Kimberlee Klesner, and Vice President for Finance Joseph Nelson to oversee the development of the plan. The planning committee members say the new plan is not to be viewed as a blueprint but rather as a set of guiding principles from which members of the Board of Trustees and the College's administration will establish priorities for implementation and make decisions concerning the future development of the Kenyon campus.
