A Powerful Combination

"When I was applying to colleges, everyone told me, 'Trust your gut feeling,' but I never really knew what that meant until I visited Kenyon," says Samie Kim, senior vice president of comedy development at ABC Entertainment." I felt something there that I'd been seeking. I knew that if I went to Kenyon, I would be able to make of my college experience what I wanted to. "

Kim spent one semester of her junior year in New York City as an intern at NBC. A year later, she spent time as an extern in the office of a past graduate of Kenyon, Todd Leavitt, Class of 1973, whose name she had discovered by researching the database in the College's Career Development Center. Leavitt's contacts in the television business helped Kim secure a job after graduation.

At every juncture in her career so far, Kim has chosen the path that would keep the most doors open. "That's why I chose liberal arts, and that's why I chose Kenyon," she says. "Kenyon opens all kinds of doors. I couldn't have done what I'm doing without that one-of-a-kind utopian experience on the Hill. At Kenyon, I developed the desire to seek things out and to embrace the things I was interested in. I felt both self-determining and supported. What a powerful combination!"
