Anna Curtis

Visiting Assistant Professor in Sociology

Anna Curtis is a visiting assistant professor who joined the Kenyon community in 2012. Her current research examines the raced and classed relationship among masculinity, fatherhood, and security practices within prison. Drawing on participant observation and interviews, she focuses on the ways correctional officiers and prisoners manage day-to-day interactions in ways that both reflect and shape the institutional setting of the penal facility. Anna has also conducted research on topics such as the relationship between altruism and egg donation and the effectiveness of online survey instruments for populations over 50. Her teaching interests cover a wide range of topics including introductory sociology and legal studies courses, Urban Sociology, and Incarceration and the Family. She particularly enjoys teaching introductory courses and providing students with the tools to apply sociological concepts in their everyday lives.
