Professional Enhancement Program 2012 of the Mathematical Association of America
Beyond Introductory Statistics: Generalized Linear and Multilevel Models
Jim Albert and Brad Hartlaub
July 16 - 20, 2012
Kenyon College
Gambier, Ohio
This workshop focuses on the fitting and evaluation of regression models with a broad range of applications. The participants will first review multiple regression models for data, and then be introduced to logistic models for binary-response data, loglinear models for count data, and proportional hazards models for survival data. The course will make extensive use of Minitab and R. The primary goal of the workshop is to enhance a general statistical modeling course by introducing instructors to new models and software so that they can develop new activities and resources appropriate for their institution. Participants will learn from each other and share resources during on-site and post-workshop components. Institutional teams that consist of professors from two or three different disciplines who teach a second course in statistics are encouraged to apply.

Transportation
If you are flying, the closest airport is Port Columbus International Airport (CMH). When scheduling your flights, please keep in mind that Kenyon College is about a 60-minute drive from the airport. Please consider the times of your flights as you will need to arrive at the airport at least 1-1.5 hours prior to your takeoff. There is no public transportation (other than taxis) between the airport and Mount Vernon or Gambier. For driving directions click here.
Parking
Campus parking for the event will be available in the South Parking Lot (click here for PDF).
Housing
Participants will be housed in the Taft Cottages on the Kenyon College campus. You will have your own room to sleep in and then share a living room and a bathroom with one other participant. Each room is equipped with two bath towels, one washcloth, a pillow, top and bottom sheets, pillow case and a blanket. (The Taft Cottages tend to run a little cooler, temperature wise; so you may want to bring an extra blanket just in case the temperature drops in the evenings.) Each suite has a microwave and a refrigerator. Washers and driers are located on the lower level of the A building.
