Girls' Science Saturdays
Girls' Science Saturdays is a unique opportunity for the girls of Knox County to experience science. We inspire interest in the physical sciences by providing a fun and encouraging environment to learn and practice scientific thought. Led by Kenyon College students and scientists, participants will use cutting-edge techniques to explore new ideas and learn scientific methods used in contemporary scientific research. You'll definitely learn something new - and build some pretty neat stuff too!
Available to all Knox County middle school girls (grades 6-8). The program begins at 9:00 a.m. and goes until 1:30 p.m. Registration is free, and lunch will be provided.
Our first session, "The Universe All Around You," was held on Saturday, October 2. Participants built a telescope and learned about astronomy, and then they learned about astrophysics by building and launching rockets!
Our next session is scheduled for March 24, 2012. You won't want to miss this one!
Quantum Physics All Around You
Saturday, March 24, 2012
9:00 am-1:30 pm (Lunch is provided.)
What does a magician whipping a tablecloth out from under a glass have in common with bouncing balls and waves in a pool? Come try your hand at the magic trick and find out! You'll learn how quantum mechanics affects us in the real world, and what keeps the glass on the table.
Registration for the March 24, 2012 session will be open from October 2 through March 16, 2012 -- Click here to register for the March 24 session!
If getting to campus poses difficulty, please indicate that transportation might be necessary when registering.
