Student Leadership Conference 2013

All Kenyon students are encouraged to attend the 2013 Student Leadership Conference. The goal of the Student Leadership Conference is to provide student leaders the knowledge, skills, and resources necessary to lead you and your organization towards great success.

At the Student Leadership Conference, participants will:

  • Meet and interact with other student leaders from campus
  • Partake in up to three breakout sessions that will encourage interaction and discussion around topics related to leadership and organizational management
  • Develop leadership skills
  • Enjoy a yummy dinner! (for students who attend at least 2 sessions)

Student organization leaders will be able to count their participation towards completing their Student Organization Leadership Development requirement!

Conflict Management 101

Presenter: Carrie Knell, Faculty and Staff Ombudsperson

Conflict is inevitable and can lead to group turmoil unless it is managed. This session will provide concrete skills on how to manage conflict and therefore improve group performance and cohesiveness.

What does your wardrobe say about you as a leader - in meetings, or even an interview? Come to this session to learn about how you can put your best foot forward and avoid the common mistakes that most candidates make. Bring your best interview outfit if you would like!

Do you start out the new year with big plans and sometimes fall short of those goals? Maybe you begin the semester with the best of intentions, but through the daily grind at some point you just get off track? This happens on sports teams and in student organizations too. You begin with these great big aspirations and everyone seems to get along, but all of a sudden people are arguing and being selfish. We will discuss why this happens and one easy way to address these issues. This method works great for groups, clubs and teams, and works even better for individuals.

Curious about how to negotiate with a vendor or artist? Are you confused by all the legalese in the average contract? This session will provide an overview of the important parts of contracts, what you need to know during the booking process, and tips for effective negotiating.

Why is it that only 10% of the members do 90% of the work? How can you make people WANT to go to something instead of HAVE to go? Let's work together to find an answer to the apathy issue on campus.
