Recycling and Composting
Compostable items need to be turned into the Peirce dish return, where AVI employees sort the materials and send them to the composting center. In addition to food waste, hot disposable cups can also be composting and should be returned to the dining hall after use.
How to Recycle at Kenyon
The Kenyon College Recycling Center is located near the athletic fields, behind the Athletic Center. All of the materials recycled on campus are processed at this location. Nearby is the Kenyon Compost Center, which receives waste from Peirce that is turned into compost for use around campus and on local farms.
Recycling bins are found in all residence halls and most other buildings on campus. Many students notice that there are a variety of types of bins. In many areas there are rectangular beige receptacles, which are separated by paper and any other recyclable material. In other locations, like Peirce Hall, Gund Commons, Olin Library, there are large box-like recycling bins in found ascending heights; these bins are marked as cans, glass, paper, and plastic. Follow the instructions on the bin.
