Kenyon Celebrates Harry Potter Day
GAMBIER, Ohio (March 24, 2011)Kenyon's Hogwarts essence has never felt so real. This Friday, March 25, the Kenyon campus will magically transform itself in celebration of the third annual Harry Potter Day, honoring everyone's favorite world of witchcraft and wizardry.
With the help of the Community Advisors, the Kenyon College Quidditch Team, the Kenyon Film Society, and AVI, Harry Potter Day has been one of the most successful campus programs. Jeff Hechler '12, heading up this year's Harry Potter Day, says, "One of the nice things about the program is that you can participate as much or as little as you like, and in so many different ways." All Kenyon's lighthearted, including community children and parents, come out to participate in the wide range of events planned throughout the day. There's something Harry for everyone.
The celebration kicks off on Thursday evening with a screening of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows at 9:00 p.m. in Rosse Hall. Friday begins with an all-campus scavenger hunt, followed by a book reading, face painting, and trivia games in the evening. For the more creative Potter fans, a costume contest will be held at 5:00 p.m. in the Great Hall-no muggles allowed! All the contests are played for house points, with first-years competing as Slytherin, sophomores Hufflepuff, juniors Ravenclaw and seniors Gryffindor.
No Harry Potter Day would be complete without a quidditch match. At 4:00 p.m., join Kenyon's own Quidditch Team for a rigorous rendition of the air-bound sport on Ransom Lawn.
Finally, the long-swirling rumors about Peirce Great Hall will be brought to life. Stop by Peirce for a Harry Potter-themed meal that will be held from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. and see proof of that the hall would have been perfect for the Harry Potter films. If you close your eyes as you enter, you'll "see" how the food magically appears!
