Big Band
GAMBIER, Ohio (February 10, 2011)Kenyon's Jazz Ensemble will share its big-band repertoire in a winter concert at Rosse Hall on Friday, February 11, at 7:00 p.m.
Big-band numbers include Moten Swing by Benny Moten, Oclupaca from Duke Ellington's Latin American Suite, and Manteca by Dizzy Gillespie. The jazz ensemble will also break out into two, smaller combos for some selections. This concert features guest vocalist Jason Walker, a 1991 Kenyon alumnus based in New York City. Walker will perform the jazz standards Pennies from Heaven and Do Nothing Till You Hear from Me.
The ensemble is directed by Ted Buehrer, the James D. & Cornelia W. Ireland Associate Professor of Music , and includes 18 student musicians and Dane Heuchemer, associate professor of music. The concert is free and the public is encouraged to attend.
