Required Submission of Standardized Testing & Score Choice

Applicants who are US citizens are required to submit results from either the SAT or ACT. The admissions office does not have a preference, and you are not required to submit results from both tests. We do recommend taking both tests at least once-some students perform dramatically different between the two exams, and the results might pleasantly surprise you.

Please note that Kenyon 'super-scores' all results. This means that we will automatically compute a new composite score for both the SAT and ACT, if you've taken either test more than once. For instance, if you sat for the SAT three times, send all three results to our office and we'll take the highest individual section scores (Critical Reading, Math and Writing) from the three exams. Members of the admissions committee will officially view only this new composite 'super-score' when considering your application.

We've long practiced super-scoring at Kenyon. We truly believe that receiving all sets of scores is more beneficial to the student, as well as being more direct and less confusing—and hopefully less costly—than score choice. While we acknowledge the argument that students should have the right to choose which test scores they want to share with us, our practice of super-scoring provides that benefit, and more.

SAT Subject, Advanced Placement and International Baccalaureate results are not required for admission to Kenyon. However, the admission committee will consider results from these exams as a component of your application for admission should you wish to submit them. For questions regarding Kenyon credit granted for results from these exams, please visit the Registrar's webpage.

Kenyon accepts test scores printed on official transcripts or from score reports sent directly to the office of admissions from the testing agencies. We cannot accept score reports sent from students or parents. However, we happily accept test scores as valid if provided directly from your high school counseling office. They may be faxed to the office of admissions at 740-427-5552, and should be accompanied by a signed fax cover sheet from your counselor stating the scores are valid.

International students whose instruction is not in English are required to take the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL). Kenyon also accepts results from these exams.

  • SAT I Reasoning Test, ACT (American College Test), or the GRE (Graduate Record Exam).

International students whose first language is English should take the SAT-1 or ACT.
