Summer Sendoff

GAMBIER, Ohio (April 29, 2010) Students will once again flock to Ransom Lawn this Saturday for the quintessentially Kenyon celebration of the end of the school year: Summer Sendoff.

Everyone will bask in the sun, play croquet, and get embarrassing airbrush tattoos, all while attempting to forget that final exams are only a week away.

Social Board has organized exciting activities starting at 10:30 a.m. and continuing throughout the day, from sand art and a limbo contest to big-screen Rock Band and snow cones. And students won't even have to leave the sunshine, because lunch, dinner, and dessert will all be served outside, buffet-style. "I'm so excited to hang out with my friends and just relax all day," Anni Fox '10 of Ann Arbor, Michigan, said.

Music-wise, this year's Sendoff promises to double the fun. The four runners-up in Kenyon's recent Battle of the Bands-The Same Dreams, The Automobills, Detroit Groove, Wreckdom-will play during the afternoon. And the winner of the contest, Jack Diesel & the Delta Phonics, will open for the evening's main event -not one, but two, headlining bands. Instrumental hip-hop artist RJD2 will kick things off at 8:30 pm, followed by The Hood Internet, mash-up artists who combine hip-hop vocals with indie-rock backing tracks.

"For seniors, this is really the time to seize the moment before we graduate," said Charlie Turndorf '10 of Skillman, New Jersey. But no matter your age, it's impossible not to get caught up in Sendoff fun.
