Nathaniel Gabriel '10

What he'll be doing

Hedge fund trader for Lynx Capital Partners, a private software development firm in Manhattan that provides infrastructure for automated trading platforms. "This position gives me a chance to excel as a junior trader because compensation is based solely on performance."

The alumni connection

Contacts through the Kenyon Career Network enabled Gabriel to schedule a dozen interviews with different firms during two trips to the East Coast. "The alumni were so helpful. I couldn't believe how eager they were to open doors for me. I interviewed with Kenyon graduates or people who were acquaintances of Kenyon graduates." Gabriel experienced the real world of high finance during an externship his junior year with John Zolidis '95, a retail stock analyst for Buckingham Research Group in New York City.

How a Kenyon education helped

"I found a passion here I didn't know I had. I originally came to Kenyon for its Integrated Program in Humane Studies, but I took an economics course my freshman year and fell in love with it largely because I had a professor [David E. Harrington] who made his class so exciting."

Why Kenyon

A Kenyon reception in Minneapolis, where Gabriel met Dean of Admissions and Financial Aid Jennifer Delahunty, led to a campus visit that made up his mind. "It was the most beautiful campus I had ever seen and everyone was so warm and friendly. The students seemed a lot like me, with many and varied interests." Kenyon afforded Gabriel the opportunity pursue an interest in Japanese with a semester at Sophia University in Tokyo arranged through Kenyon's affiliation with the nonprofit Council on International Educational Exchange (CIEE).
