The Student Activities Office is committed to the leadership development of Kenyon students and preparing them not only as a student leader, but an engaged citizen. Current leadership development opportunities include:
TEDxKenyonCollege: Everyday Leadership is a local, independently organized TED event taking place on Saturday, March 23, 2013, from 1 to 5:30 p.m. in the Gund Gallery at Kenyon College. The event strives to re-create the unique experience found at TED, where the world's leading thinkers and doers congregate to share what they are most passionate about. At our event, TEDTalks video and live speakers will combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group (limited to 100 attendees). At its core, the fundamental goal of TED and TEDxKenyonCollege is to foster and spread great ideas. We aim to provide a platform where the smartest thinkers, greatest visionaries, and most fascinating individuals will be inspired and will have the opportunity to inspire others.
All Kenyon students are encouraged to attend the 2012 Fall Student Leadership Conference on Saturday, September 22nd. The goal of the Student Leadership Conference is to provide student leaders the knowledge, skills, and resources necessary to lead you and your organization towards great success.
Attendees will have the opportunity to partake in up to three breakout sessions that will encourage interaction and discussion around topics related to leadership and organizational management.
Leader Lunch & Learns are short workshops that focus on training for student organization members. Topics range from fundraising, event planning, and budgeting to using the student organization Community database and leading a successful meeting. No advance registration required.
Taste of the Real World is a program designed to teach senior class students how to survive after college! Financial planning, learning to cook, and dressing for success are just a few of the presentations we have for our seniors. Senior students have the chance to mingle, enjoy a formal dinner, and learn about the 'real world' from our presenters. Taste of the Real World occurs once a month. Registration will begin in early August, and the deadline for this year's Taste of the Real World will be September 10th, 2012.
Emerging Leaders Symposium
The Emerging Leaders Symposium, held in February, brings students together to discuss leadership topics and build on their knowledge through workshops and activities facilitated by our staff and leadership professionals. First and second year Kenyon students who have exhibited leadership potential through their involvement in the Kenyon Community are nominated to attend by professors, administrators, and peers. The symposium aims to recognize the contributions of these individuals and encourage them to continue their service when they leave Kenyon to become active citizens in our world.
