Lute and Flute in Concert at Kenyon

GAMBIER, Ohio (October 19, 2009)

Renowned lute player Ronn McFarlane performs on Sunday, Oct. 25, at 3 p.m. in the Brandi Recital Hall of Storer Hall, 105 College Dr.

McFarlane is known for bringing the lute into the modern cultural mainstream. Since becoming a member of the Baltimore Consort in 1978, he has toured throughout the United States, Canada, and Europe, with the group and as a soloist. A recent review by the Baltimore Sun noted that McFarlane "knows how to make the lute sing, how to bring such life to the music of the 16th and 18th centuries."

He was awarded an honorary doctorate of music from the Shenandoah Conservatory for his achievements in promoting the lute. He is a composer of lute music and has produced numerous albums of solo and collaborative work. His latest album, Indigo Road, received a Grammy nomination for best crossover album.

McFarlane's third appearance at Kenyon is part of the Taylor Concert Series, which is devoted to the performance of music composed before 1800 and features world-class musicians playing historical instruments.

McFarlane will perform with flute player Mindy Rosenfeld, a founding member of the Baltimore Consort and part of San Francisco's Philharmonia Baroque Orchestra.

This concert is free and open to the public. For more information call 740 427-5197 or visit www.kenyon.edu.
