Studio Art Scholarship

Eligibility

The competition is open to high school seniors who meet the criteria for admission to Kenyon College, and who wish to pursue studio art in their four-year college experience. Those wanting to be considered for studio art scholarships must submit their application by December 15. Students are not required to major in studio art, but will be expected to take studio art courses each year, and scholarship recipients are encouraged to major or minor in studio art.

Studio art scholarships are determined on a competitive basis and require the following:

Finalists will also meet with studio art faculty for an on-campus interview on February 13, 2010. Judges will select up to three scholarship winners each year.

Scholarship Awards

Studio art scholarships range up to $12,000 per year and are renewable for four years as long as the student maintains an overall GPA of 3.0 or higher, and based on continued participation in studio art courses and faculty recommendation.

Round 1: December 15, 2009, Preliminary Round Materials Due

Portfolio on CD, application, and recommendation letter must be postmarked and mailed directly to the Office of Admissions by December 15, 2009. NOTE: Students must complete both the art scholarship application and Kenyon's admissions application in order to be considered. Materials should be mailed directly to:

January 21, 2010, Notification of Finalists

Finalists will be notified by January 21 and will have until Friday, January 22, to notify the College if they wish to advance to the final round. We will select up to eight finalists for the final round.

February 13, 2010, Final Round

Finalists will participate in an interview with the Kenyon College studio art faculty. This interview is not open to the public.

Finalists must bring five to ten examples of artwork they have made (either actual work or on CD for projection), and be prepared to discuss the work with several members of the studio art faculty during an interview.

Kenyon College will provide airfare for students who must fly to campus for the final round.

About the Portfolio

The portfolio should include ten jpg image files in CD-rom format, Macintosh compatible. All materials should be labeled with your name, title of each piece (if any), media, dimensions, and year completed. Portfolio artwork may include drawing, painting, photography, digital imagery, mixed media, printmaking, sculpture, and other media. One video art project, one minute or less in length, may be used for one of the ten pieces.

Artist's Statement

The artist's statement should include your artistic and academic goals, a brief discussion of your artwork, and a description of artists and/or work that you admire (250 word limit.)
