Linda Dauwalder-Dachtyl is a performer, composer, and music instructor in jazz piano and percussion at Kenyon College. She holds a Bachelor of Music in Jazz Performance from Capital University and a Master of Arts in Percussion Pedagogy from The Ohio State University. Her performance experience includes jazz, classical, blues, and rock genres.
Linda is signed to Chicken Coup Records, a division of Summit Records, and has released two CDs nationally as a band leader on her Hammond B3 organ, "Blue Bop" (2006) and "For Hep Cats" (upcoming release- January 2008). Both CDs also feature the drumming of Linda's husband and Kenyon percussion instructor Cary Dachtyl. "Blue Bop"/LDB3 and Friends placed in the top 50 for several weeks on allaboutjazz.com in the summer of 2006 and was picked as one of the top five jazz releases in 2006, by Lee Brown, jazz critic for The Other Paper in Columbus, Ohio. In addition to leading "LDB3," Linda leads "QED," a jazz piano trio that performs frequently in the Columbus area for public and private performances. She is a member of "Soul Satyr," an original blues band, the avant-garde jazz ensemble "Honk, Wail, and Moan," and the "Johnny Mack Big Band" of Dayton, Ohio. She is also the staff composer for "Amish Heartland Productions," providing original music for their various industrial projects.
Active as a freelancer both on percussion and keyboard, the organizations and artists Linda has performed with include the Opera Columbus Orchestra, Welsh Hills Orchestra, Pro Musica, Columbus Light Opera, Central Ohio Symphony Orchestra (COSO), the Rick Brunetto Big Band, Vaughn Wiester's Famous Jazz Orchestra, The Walt James Band, The Sean Carney Band, Gene Walker, Teeney Tucker, and Willie Pooch.
