Kimberly McCann

Adjunct Instructor of French Horn

Kimberly McCann, hornist, has called Columbus her home since 1996. Born in York, Pennsylvania, she started her musical training at the early age of 7. As a young musician, she was decisive about her desire to go on to a career in music. At 15, she began studying horn at the Peabody Conservatory of Music in Baltimore, Maryland, where she also played with the University of Maryland Baltimore County Orchestra. In 1995, Ms. McCann earned a Bachelor of Music degree from Wheaton College Conservatory of Music in Illinois. She went on to Northwestern University where she earned a Masters Degree in Horn Performance. Ms. McCann has studied horn with Deborah Phillips, Melanie Cottle, Gail Williams, and Dale Clevenger.

Ms. McCann is principal horn in the Newark Granville Symphony Orchestra and the Westerville Symphony Orchestra. In late 2007, she was the featured soloist at the Westerville Symphony's 25th Anniversary Season Gala Concert. She has also performed with Mannheim Steamroller, the West Virginia Symphony Orchestra, and the Columbus Bach Ensemble. In addition to orchestral playing, Ms. McCann is an experienced chamber musician, performing with various bass and woodwind quintets and the OSU Faculty Brass Trio. She has also played in the pit orchestras of off-Broadway productions including The Nutcracker and State Fair.

Ms. McCann is a much sought-after horn instructor. Since 1997, she has maintained a private horn studio. Ms. McCann accepted the position of adjunct professor of horn at Otterbein College in 2005. She is also the adjunct horn instructor at Mount Vernon Nazarene University and Kenyon College. She has judged several youth solo competitions in the Columbus area, and enjoys working with young musicians.

Ms. McCann is active at Grace Brethren Church of Columbus, where she serves in the music ministry. She volunteers as a guest lecturer in music at Worthington Christian Schools. Ms. McCann resides in Powell with her husband and three children.
