Cleantech talk

The cleantech revolution comes to Kenyon this week when alumnus Marshall Chapin, senior director of business development at EnerNOC, shares ideas for intelligent energy management.

Cleantech is the use of products and practices that improve energy efficiency and reduce costs and consumption. Chapin '94 will discuss "The Greenest Kilowatt-Hour is the One Never Used: Reflections on Entrepreneurship and the Cleantech Revolution" on Thursday, October 1, at 4:10 p.m. in Higley Auditorium. Chapin's appearance is part of the Burton D. Morgan Foundation Lectureship Series.

Chapin leads EnerNOC sales efforts for a northeastern region of the United States and Ontario, Canada. He is a former chief operating officer for Envision Schools, a non-profit organization aimed at increasing college opportunities for students in urban areas through the development of high-performance public high schools. Chapin has also worked as a senior manager of business development and corporate strategy at Genuity Solutions, an Internet infrastructure company.

Chapin, of Norwell, Massachusetts, earned a master's degree in business administration from the Johnson Graduate School of Management at Cornell University after majoring in philosophy at Kenyon. He has served as a Big Brother, was a board member of Habitot Children's Museum in Berkeley, California, and played professional soccer in England.

He is considered one of the best soccer goalkeepers in Kenyon history, earned All-American status, and helped the team compile a 66-8-5 record in his career. He was inducted into the Kenyon Athletic Association Hall of Fame in 2007.

The Burton D. Morgan Foundation is based in Hudson, Ohio, and is dedicated to encouraging the free enterprise system. The foundation is the generous supporter of a series of lectures on the Kenyon campus during the academic year.
